I had set my alarm for 3am as I knew there was a pretty good chance of storms coming through with the pre-frontal trough. Earlier on in the evening, there had been storms evident on the tracker and radar off KI and the west coast of SA. These were forecast by the BOM to move through central areas early in the morning as showers - I thought otherwise as models pointed at an area of instability likely to keep storm going through till Adelaide.

After waking at 3am, a quick check of the satpics and radars proved there were storms incoming, and a glance outside brought several distant flashes on the western horizon. I decided that a better view was required if I was to capture some decent lightning photos, so a drive down the road to Dave's place at Walkley Heights was in order. From there it was a couple of hours of brilliant electrical activity and I was lucky to get a few decent shots as seen below.

Several others around the state were also up and about taking photos and a glance through the Weatherzone thread  shows off some of the more impressive photos from the morning!
