2nd November 2002

A complex series of troughs and a front moved through South Australia on the evening of the 1st and morning of the 2nd of November, spawning numerous dry thunderstorms across all parts of the state. These storms were spectacular for the amount of lightning recorded. I spent the night at Elizabeth Downs which ended up being a very good location for lightning photography. The first line of storms moved through the southern Adelaide region about 2.30am. Soon afterwards a second line of storms developed in a very quick space of time (20mins) in the northern suburbs. Some very spectacular lightning was observed to my north from which these 3 photographs below were taken.

A squall line then moved through from Yorke Peninsula hitting Adelaide about 7am. Most storms were relatively dry although we did receive a couple of brief heavy showers (I have never seen rain drops as big as those... lol)
What was very interesting after these storms moved through was the thick dust haze that settled over the suburbs in the morning. (photo below) A couple of isolated storms were recorded in the suburbs in the late morning and several nice looking Cbs developed east of the ranges in the afternoon.
